Internship project summary
Latigo Biotherapeutics is looking for a graduate intern to work closely with a Scientist to explore the mechanism of action of potential analgesics targeting ion channels using electrophysiology approaches. The specific scope of the project will vary based on the experience and interests of the candidate, as well as to develop proficiency in new techniques. Work will include experimental design, execution of technical protocols, hands-on learning, and rigorous data analysis. The position requires attention-to-detail, creativity, resolve, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. The approximate length of the internship is 2-3 months.

Essential functions
•    Execution of biochemical, molecular biology, and electrophysiology assays to determine the mechanism of action of potential analgesics against ion channel targets.
•    Proper documentation of experiment results and record keeping in lab notebooks.
•    Critical analysis and interpretation of data. Preparation and presentation of research results in both oral and written formats to the biology team and/or at a company scientific team meeting
•    Development of a scientific, critical thinking mindset. 
•    Compliance with company policies, safety procedures and SOPs.

Education, experience, and skills requirements
•    Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program in biology, biophysics, neuroscience, pharmacology, or related disciplines.
•    Familiarity with basics of ion channel physiology and electrophysiology
•    Experience with mammalian cell culture is required. 
•    Proficiency in data acquisition, documentation, and data analysis.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to present research results in both written and oral formats.
•    Demonstrated learning agility and intellectual curiosity.
•    Pro-active mindset with attention to detail.
•    Team-oriented with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively.
